Polaron Connect and the Department of Home Affairs would like to invite you to a short community meeting to learn about the Australian Government’s changes to the Protection visa system and their potential impact on temporary visa holders, especially international students.
Why this is important
The Department of Home Affairs is seeing an increasing number of temporary visa holders apply for a Protection visa (PV) as a way to stay in Australia to work after their temporary visa expires. This is not the purpose of a PV and these applicants are quickly refused.
Being refused a PV can impact future visa applications to Australia and other countries around the world – not just for the applicant but also for their family members.
In some cases, temporary visa holders are paying thousands of dollars to unregistered migration advisers for incorrect advice about Protection visas.
What you will learn
The Department of Home Affairs has launched a campaign to educate temporary visa holders about changes to the PV system. As part of the campaign, Polaron Connect has worked with the Department to create culturally informed, evidence-based communication resources that are available in 19 languages.
We would like to share these resources with you and explain how they can be used to inform your community networks about PV reform.
The community meeting is held online on Wednesday, 11 June 2025 and we are offering two different time slots for your convenience:
