During this live and interactive webinar, moderated by Polaron’s Founder & Director, Eva Hussain, will be joined by Uncle Shane Charles, a strong Yorta Yorta, Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung Elder and Lavinia Napaltjarri Heffernan from the community of Papunya in the Northern Territory. Lavinia is an Indigenous Project Officer (IIP) at the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters. She is also a translator and NAATI-certified interpreter in Pintupi-Luritja. Together they will discuss the importance of preserving First Nations languages, the vital role of cultural sensitivity in language services, the strategies used to engage with community elders and learn about the complexities of translating First Nations languages.
