SUMMARY:Bilingual Worker Training: Improve Your Translation & Interpretation Skills
DESCRIPTION:This training is for bilingual workers who want to improve their skills in preparation to become interpreters or translators.\nIt is free of charge and is being delivered courtesy of the team at Polaron in response to unmet regional demand. \nWith presentations from experienced interpreters\, NAATI and Polaron’s management\, the workshop aims to help prospective language professionals to improve their skills and gain an understanding of how the interpreting and translation industry works. \nAmongst others\, we’ll discuss pathway to become professional interpreters and translators\, rates and remuneration and business skills required to make this a sustainable profession. We’ll also cover some ethical aspects of the job. \nParticipants will also learn how to use translation tools and technology to make their work easier. By the end of the training\, they will feel more confident and ready to explore becoming a language professional. \nPlease note that registration will close once we reach the maximum capacity of 20 participants.

The Australian Government is taking action to stop people exploiting Australia’s Protection visa system while ensuring those who need asylum are quickly granted protection. \nCommunities in Australia have an important role to play in preventing the spread of misinformation to those who are considering applying for a Protection visa. \nThis includes spreading awareness about:\n1. The consequences of submitting false or misleading information in a Protection visa application.\n2. DESCRIPTION:Join Polaron Language Services for our latest FREE webinar and discover how community leaders and language providers are keeping the cultural heritage alive through language. During this live and interactive webinar\, moderated by Polaron’s Founder & Director\, Eva Hussain\, will be joined by Uncle Shane Charles\, a strong Yorta Yorta\, Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung Elder and Lavinia Napaltjarri Heffernan from the community of Papunya in the Northern Territory. Lavinia is an Indigenous Project Officer (IIP) at the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters. She is also a translator and NAATI-certified interpreter in Pintupi-Luritja. Together they will discuss the importance of preserving First Nations languages\, the vital role of cultural sensitivity in language services\, the strategies used to engage with community elders and learn about the complexities of translating First Nations languages. \nWatch the video replay on:
